GBXML to EnergyPlus
Posted by Michael J. Witte, Last modified by Linda Lawrie on 26 July 2010 02:36 PM
Question: Are any plans to support GBXML files? The software that our architects use is Revit which produces GBXML files and as of yet I didn't think they could be converted to/or use GXML files in Energy+. Is it possible to or are there any plans to incorporate this?

Answer: There are currently two indirect paths from GBXML to EnergyPlus, using Ecotect or DesignBuilder. A user has posted instructions at:

I also thought that the GreenBuilding Studio online could import GBXML and export an IDF file. We use GBS to go from Revit to INP files into eQuest currently, but I am pretty sure they can also export IDF for EnergyPlus.

I have heard of some energy modeling firms that actually have a team of people dedicated to fixing arch revit models to not break this conversion process. The problem arises when walls are not exactly touching or there are any slight errors in the arch model.
