Question: How do you model an ice rink in EnergyPlus?

Answer: There is no ice rink model presently in EnergyPlus (v6.0, October 2010).

The best you can do at this point is to use outside calculations to estimate the energy input and the sensible/latent heat transfer to the zone. Then, depending on the heat source, you can use ElectricEquipment, GasEquipment, OtherEquipment, or WaterUse:Equipment to model the heat gain to the space and possibly the energy consumption to heat/circulate the water. You can also use LoadProfile:Plant to add the heating load to a plant loop which may be served by a boiler or heat recovery. The best combination of the above depends on the particular configuration you need to model.

For further assistance you might ask for guidance and examples from other modelers on the bldg-sim list (onebuilding.org) or other EnergyPlus users at the EnergyPlus Yahoo group (www.energyplus.gov/energyplus_support.cfm for info).
