It is much easier to use HVACTemplate objects to set up your system. All required supporting objects are set up for you. Notice in your 5Zone input file, you have specified AHU1CCController for BOTH cooling coil controller lists. The second controller list should use controller name AHU2CCController. The 5Zone file worked when I used the correct controller name.

The night cycle option is set to Cycle On Any in the HVACTemplate:System:Unitary object. This will turn on the AC system. Change the night cycle option to Stay Off and the system shuts down correctly. For future reference, an indicator of night cycle operation is the on one time step, off the next type of operation

Variable Refrigerant Flow air conditioners are currently available in EnergyPlus as of V7.2.

Models include heat pump, heat recovery, and water-cooled VRF systems.

The heat pump VRF (cooling only or heating only) was included as of V7.0. 

Q: Does EnergyPlus include variable refrigerant flow modules? I have seen a couple of research papers on modules developed for EnergyPlus, but do not see anything in the current documentation.

A: The VRF (or VRV) model is now included as an equipment type in EnergyPlus. As of V7, a VRF heat pump can be modeled. For V7.2, heat recovery and water-cooled VRF systems can be modeled.

Update 9/10/2012: The VRV/VRF model is now included in E+.

The VRV (or VRF) heat pump model is included as an equipment type in EnergyPlus V7.0.

Heat recovery for VRV systems will be included with V7.2 and also include water-cooled VRF systems.
